No-one is safe… from children’s TV presenters…

As read in the Guardian

ITV children’s TV presenters Anna Williamson and Jamie Rickers have revealed that they were once questioned by police under anti-terrorism powers – for carrying glittery hairdryers.

Yes… Glittery hairdryers…

“Jamie and I were kitted out in fake utility belts, we had the whole bulletproof flak jacket thing, we’ve got hairdryers in our belt, a kids’ £1.99 walkie-talkie, hairbrushes and all that kind of stuff, and we were being followed by a camera crew and a boom mike and we get literally pulled over by four policemen and we were issued with a warning ‘under the act of terrorism’.”

Rickers added: “We were stopped, not arrested, but they had to say ‘we are holding you under the Anti-Terrorism Act because you’re running around in flak jackets and a utility belt’, and I said ‘and please put spangly blue hairdryer’ and he was, like, ‘all right’.”

So, just to clarify, kids TV show people with camera crew and sparkling hairdressing paraphernalia warrants the police to investigate, yet a local shop I visit had a ton of damage done to the back of their building and the police don’t investigate?

Intriguing…

How badly do you want to be on TV? Would you falsely say that your child is on a balloon flying thousands of feet up in the hope of getting a deal? Well, depending on how you look at it, we may have found someone.

Richard Heene said that his 6 year old child was stuck on a balloon that was launched from his home. In turn, the media went nuts at such a fantastic story that was happening right in front of them. It was later found that Falcon (apt name that can lead to so many jokes…) was instead hiding in the garage.

The Heene family are saying it’s not a hoax. There’s the possibility of charges if the US legal system believes otherwise (and based on the video, they’re screwed, even if they call it “Youtubes”).

I’m uncertain as to whether or not it is a simple mistake on the family’s part without a large amount of evidence in either direction. It could be they screwed up and genuinely didn’t know the kid hid from everyone.

Alternatively, someone could have seen what happened to Octo-mom..

[via LA Times and AP on Youtube]

Hot on the heels (by a few years) of the transformation of Top Gear from pokey motoring magazine show to all-out entertainment with a bit of car knowledge chucked in, Tomorrow’s World has become Bang Goes the Theory. The great minds fronting it go off and do the scientific magazine sections of talking to head boffins whilst someone whom looks like Moss from the IT Crowd bothers the public with small scale science, and another guy tries to avoid killing himself doing really big science.

Dear America.

I know it’s been a long time since I’ve last talked to you, Man to Country, but I think it’s time that I said something…
Earlier this year, Barack Obama ecame your president. Your leader. And whilst most of the world rejoiced in the fact that no longer will we have to put up with “Dubya” in charged, others felt there was a reality distortion field of Steve Jobs levels in effect. Indeed, I was a bit sceptical, thinking that Obama was just an ordinary man and would do as normal politicians do but in a big white house, and that not much would change.
However, something has changed. Obama swatted a fly in an awesome manner. This showed impromptu competency, something missing from US governance for the last decade.

This is awe-inspiring, and I can only apologise for not trusting popular opinion sooner…
