100 Kirbies!

Filed under: Gaming, Internet, Other — Malcolm Owen @ 1:15 pm

100 Kirbies Section

Yes, 100 Kirbies. As in Kirby but plural. And in costumes. Kick-ass costumes. Like ones that don’t really exist. Really!

I want a Poster… Now…

Xbox 360 Elite Laptop - Greatness

Filed under: Gadgets, Gaming, Tech — Malcolm Owen @ 7:24 pm

So yeah, there was this guy “Ben Heckendorn” (fantastic surname by the way…) whom decided that he wanted to beat all the DS and PSP owners in the world by making the ultimate portable gaming console. And he did. A portable Xbox 360. Looked good, and deserved a place on the pedestal of greatness forever. And all was good.

Then, Microsoft unleashed the Xbox 360 Elite.

Mr Heckendorn (Still rocking the surname of greatness), decided to take things to the next level. Ben worked hard to cram another 360 into another case to make a far superior Xbox 360 Elite Laptop. A self-contained unit, similar to a laptop in that there’s a mounted screen, built-in camera, keyboard etc, except it’s a 360 Elite. It works exactly how a 360 would do, except it’s in laptop form. Absolutely fantastic.

He is a living legend that should be hired by a large electronics company to come up with the greatest stuff imaginable. Microsoft, pay this man money and make this commercial.

Wii Needs This - Damn Fantastic 3D Using Head Tracking and Voodoo

Filed under: Gadgets, Gaming, Software, Video — Malcolm Owen @ 11:06 pm

Hi, I’m Johnny Lee, Welcome to Jac… No, wait…

Do you own a Wii? Do you own a Wiimote? Are you a really geeky person that needs to see the latest in future gaming technology using today’s tech? I’d suggest watching this

Johnny Chug Lee has somehow managed to destroy everyone else’s normal thought patterns, bent time and space, and probably had a Happy Meal for breakfast, by making a damn realistic 3D effect with a Wiimote and some safety glasses.
It’s probably unrealistic for anything to be released in the short term that takes advantage of this idea, but I would absolutely love to see this used in the future. Imagine, a decent Time Crisis game where you have to actually duck or hide around a pillar. Metal Gear Solid with you peeking around the corner in first person view. Tetris with damn realistic blocks.

You want to play with Johnny’s tech? I thought you would

Zero Punctuation - I Envy Yahtzee’s Style

Filed under: Gaming, Video — Malcolm Owen @ 2:06 am

Comedy gold you want? Gaming goodness you crave? Video Fantasticness with a British Accent and No Breathing your kind of thing? Might I suggest, in a most likely NSFW way…

Zero Punctuation reviews were created by internet god Yahtzee (I keep expecting a C somewhere in that name for some reason…) where he talks about whatever the current game on everyone’s mind plays. He is a picky guy (like me), but this only aids his fast-moving comedy speech. A highly-barbed, tightly-compressed video of epic proportions, that I just wish I could ever be half as good as.

“Dude, You’re Getting a WoW” - Dell XPS World of Warcraft Laptop

Filed under: Gaming, PC, Tech — Malcolm Owen @ 1:58 am

Yes, I admit it. I’m a World of Warcraft addict. I have a few characters on a few servers. I do not, however, have a character maxed out as of yet. That’s because I play it slowly. A pace some would consider glacial. I do try, but I get distracted easily. Super Mario Galaxy as an example. Anyway…

Dell has made in their wisdom, or more likely in their knowledge of the uberfanboy’s deepest thoughts, the World of Warcraft Dell XPS laptop. Really. You can get a beefy laptop that plays World of Warcraft well, emblazoned with Horde or Alliance logos, along with a backpack full of WoW stuff, including copies of the game (…a bit pointless, given the type of person who’s actually going to buy it), strategy guides (…), fantasy novels (…right…), beta keys (useful), and even a figurine of your character… That last one even makes me think about getting it… except that I really think I should reach 60 or 70 first…

Win a Wii with Gametactics

Filed under: Gaming, Internet, Tech — Malcolm Owen @ 12:54 pm

Yes, I know I write there. And yes, I know it’s only for the population of Canada to try and win, but quite frankly this is the biggest contest that Gametactics has ever wheeled out into the world. Excuse me whilst I go into “Smarmy Marketer” Mode…

Do you want this year’s most wanted games console by Christmas? Want a Wii but can’t get one in the shops? Live in Canada but not the Province of Quebec? Then you can enter Gametactics‘ contest to win a Wii, Battalion Wars 2 and Fire Emblem from Nintendo of Canada. Just go HERE, enter your details (No, they won’t be sold to anyone else), answer the easy question (Think really hard about this. People really are getting it wrong…), and hope you win.
The winner’s chosen after the 30th of November, where they’ll be contacted and then sent the little white box of gaming goodness.

Enter Now!

That didn’t hurt much at all, did it? Things learned - “Smarmy” is in my Mac’s spellchecker…

Skate Demo Player Kicks Girl In Face. In-Game, Obviously….

Filed under: Gaming, Video — Malcolm Owen @ 12:00 pm

Gamers may well be aware of a little thing called Skate, also known as EA’s attempt on Tony Hawk’s life. If you’re not, the short version is a skateboarding game where the tricks are harder yet “more organic” to do than in the Tony Hawk games. As in you have to physically learn how to abuse the controller in order to get the right trick done, instead of pressing just a few buttons to get the same done in THPS…
Anyway, there’s a demo for Skate, which in itself isn’t much in terms of news. What is, though, is the fact that they (EA) have apparently made it easier to make game-videos to post online, so you can show off your favorite runs/tricks/wipeouts.

Cue this video, that seemingly looks like a poor player accidentally clipped a NPC skater, and fell over. If you watch again, look at the leg movements closely. It wasn’t just a clip. It was an aerial donkey kick to the face, with added plank.

Simultaneously, I think to myself “That’s evil” and “…Cool!”. I pity myself…

Free Unicorns in Second Life (My Brain Hurts…)

Filed under: Gaming, Internet, Other — Malcolm Owen @ 9:46 am

So, Justin and I were recording the latest edition of Video Game Guys, when we ran out of news on a slow news week. This has happened before, but to avoid too much pain and embarrassment, I dutifully looked online for any new things that pique my interest, gaming-wise. Cue reading Destructoid [NSFW], more specifically a story called Second Life gets even creepier: Sex with unicorns anyone? [NSFW] And my brain just broke at this.

Really, you can go onto Second Life, and get… impregnated… by a unicorn [NSFW]. And in return, you get a pet unicorn to keep. And I’ll leave it at that, so you can go see the report [NSFW] for yourselves and get creeped out.

…My brain still hurts…

Winning Poker Chips with Pac-Man Ball

Filed under: Gaming, Other — Malcolm Owen @ 7:47 pm

So, yesterday the housemates told me of a new gambling machine at the local arcade, themed with Pac-Man. My gaming sense started tingling, and it wasn’t long before I could see what they meant by “Cool”. It was a coin pusher game, but if you could get the coins to get through specific gates before it reached the top shelf of the moving stairs, it played a Puzzle Bobble game in the centre screen, from which more coins can spit out. Yes, it was Pac-Man Ball, and it’s explained better here.

So, using my winnings from the newest coin pushing machine, I went to the ticket games, and won a stupid amount thanks to some bouncing ball game. What did I do with these tickets? Why, I bought a tin of poker chips, and with the change got some sweets and 2 bouncy balls. Hurrah!

These chips look exactly like the ones I bought from Tesco, meaning that I now have a stupidly large amount of poker chips. When laid out on a table, it makes me feel really quite rich. Seriously, if you were in Vegas with this many chips, you’d be feeling rich too…

Poker Chips

Yes! I’m Rich! Rich I tells ye! John Chow ain’t got nothing on me, damnit!
Well, I can dream, can’t I?
