50 Things The Internet Has Killed – Tip Of The Iceberg?

By Malcolm Owen | Sep 9, 2009

A guy by the name of Matthew Moore at The Telegraph has created a list of 50 things that have been killed, maimed, destroyed etc by The All Powerful Internet.

This list includes, in no particular order and with no real connection:
Punctuality, Teenage Nerves when Buying Porn, The Myth of Cat Intelligence, Memory, Dogging (the sex in cars with strangers thing),Prostitute Calling Cards and Sarah Palin.

As usual, I have a few things I disagree with.

For a start, let’s look at the Cat Intelligence Myth. How exactly did cats get this myth in the first place? At no point have I seen a cat show any decent signs of intelligence at all. Stupidity? Copious amounts of evidence on that (cats jumping where a pillar used to be without realising it isn’t there, cats hiding behind a single thin twig of a tree thinking that will hide it from the bird it’s hunting, cats falling into the toilet without any help…). All the Lolcats are doing is showing to the rest of the world the failures cats really are.

Knowing telephone numbers off by heart is being blamed on contact books, namely phone memory or similar. Really, that could be caused just by mobile phones having memory to actually store numbers on, as opposed to t’internet. Then again, we do now have tons of different usernames for people that we have to learn instead of numbers…

Pencil Cricket: I’m sorry, what?

And finally: Sarah Palin. Quite frankly she would have shot herself in the foot using TV and newspapers if the internet wasn’t around.

It’s a good list anyway, despite the slight issues I have with it.
