Cat Saves Railway With Cute Hat

By Malcolm Owen | May 27, 2008

Yes, it’s another “Isn’t Japan Crazy?” post, but indulge me.

A train station in Japan had all of it’s staff fired due to lack of funds (passengers). A cat decided to call it home, stayed there, got dressed up in a train driver’s hat, got “promoted” to station master, spawned a string of merchandise based upon cats and trains, and is now responsible for a 10% increase in passengers.

I’ll wait whilst that melts into your mind…

…Ok.

What!? Thomas the Tank Engine didn’t make me want to ride the trains. Postman Pat didn’t make me want to send letters to everyone and suddenly drive a red van around. Surely a cat in a hat that lives at a train station can’t be the source of millions and millions of Yen revenue…

Just saying…
