Many people yearn to travel to far off lands, in search of something new, something different to their own hum-drum surroundings that they were brought up in. This leads a few people to teach english in another country, in an attempt to make people there speak english better. An example of this sort of thing is Gaijin Smash.

Gaijin Smash is a blog about am American living in Japan as an english language teacher, helping out in schools, and generally trying to make the average Japanese child say the word “Lemon” without sounding like Scooby Doo. And that’s where the normal part finishes.

Sadly, what you see on TV clip shows such as Tarrant on TV or on Youtube (The crotch whack if you can’t say a tongue twister correctly video is an example) really does happen in the schools of Japan. Weirdness abounds, such as the Kancho, weird sexual perversions (yes, really), and oddness in society in general when a Gaijin (foreigner to Japan) does, well, anything at all really. Laughing at foreign oddities is still funny, especially when written in this style. That’s why Tucker Max got him on the Rudius network of sites.

I highly recommend reading it, especially if you too have thought about signing up to JET. Some of these things may make you think again.
