Bloomberg has posted a report about a survey, stating that about half the Kids in America (Whooaaaa!) have seen images of a pornographic nature. Of those, 80% claim it’s due to unrelated searches (So searching for Water Sports with Google’s Safesearch turned off was supposed to show them… what?) such as mistyped words. And to me that sounds like a whole new meaning to the term “My finger slipped”…
It gets better. 20% had actually wanted to enter a porn site, “without realizing they would be disturbed by it’s contents“. I’m sorry, what? You intentionally visit a porn site and you’re weirded out by the content of the site? What on Earth are they going to be like when they’re older!? Nuns and Monks?
Here’s why I think they’re saying 50% of those surveyed have seen porn. The survey was conducted with children aged 10 to 17. I would have somehow thought the older kids would have been trying to find out what the “Sex” thing is, since they would presumably be involved with it in a few years time. At the Prom.
Alternatively, it is because of parents being asked about the Birds and the Bees, and then, stalling for an answer, decide to show them thanks to Jenna Jameson and streaming video technology.
Sudden realisation – The use of the terms in this story is going to cause some viewers to never again be able to see the site, because of content screening and censoring software. The Adsense is going to be non-family friendly. And biggest of all, mentioning porn at all will mean this site will be blocked from China and the UAE, along with some other countries. Fantastic!
