gmachina – Gaming RSS Harvesting, Not Fluffy Kitten Photos

By | Jan 15, 2007

GmachinaGuys, you’re probably really bored of having to check each and every gaming news site for the latest information. You might miss something on 1up or Destructoid whilst you’re checking on Gamespot. What if there was some sort of way of viewing all the top stories of all of the big gaming sites in one go…

The obvious answer would be to have an RSS reader, constantly getting the latest feeds from all of the sites you want. Problem is, what if you’re at an internet cafe, or worse, at a friend’s house, and they have along with the gaming feeds some news about basket weaving? A situation like that could damage a friendship, especially when you know that your friend is heavily into Counter-Strike, yet has an overwhelming urge to look at pictures of cats wearing uniforms. Not good at all.
The much better answer is to search for a site that harvests the latest from the big names in gaming, and displays them in a fairly unobtrusive manner on your screen.

Gentlemen, Ladies and that basket weaving cat nut. I give you gmachina. A site that uses the RSS niceness without all of the web 2.0 gimmicks, the overly colourful design, or the fluffy kittens. It’s a feed harvesting site for gamers. Try it, it might save your friendship…

Thanks for the kind words Malcolm. Glad people are starting to see my simple project for what it is, simple. No flashy Web 2.0 gimmicks (though I’ve heard someone call gmachina Web 2.0 before, probably because of the gradient), distracting use of Flash, excuses to swing my Photoshop epeen, etc.

It’s all about communication, not decoration. I hope this starts to become a trend with gaming sites, especially those that report news and are totally dependent on written content.

    Cheers.
